The X PRIZE Foundation announces the 43 qualified teams who have made it past the second phase of judging. that 43 teams with 53 vehicles from 18 US States and 11 countries had made it through the stringent Design Judging phase. The final teams now have to look forward to the events beginning in May 2010. Congrats to the passing teams!

September 28, 2009 CTS News!!
CTS has successfully formed an alliance with Caroline County, MD. We are locating our R&D and manufacturing facility in Ridgely, MD. The Caroline County Commissioners will publically announce this relationship on Tuesday. Thank you Caroline County!
This is just the beginning of the 100 MPGe saga for CTS. We are in the midst of selling sponsorships to continue with this journey. While the XPrize Challenge is stopping at three cities, CTS will add ten more stops at major cities across the country to promote the XPrize and our sponsors. These stops will showcase the green initiatives of several national and local technology companies.
The center piece technology for our entry is the long duration plasma ignition. The benefits to the world of engines, using this technology, was amazing back in 1992 and today offers even more benefits and applications. This will be a huge business during and after the XPrize.

REAL CARS FOR REAL PEOPLE
The goal of the Progressive Insurance Automotive X PRIZE is to inspire
a new generation of viable, safe and super fuel efficient vehicles.
The $10 million dollar Progressive Automotive X PRIZE purse will be
awarded to the teams that win a rigorous long-distance stage race
with clean, production-capable vehicles that exceed 100 MPG or
energy equivalent fuel economy (MPGe).
Aspects of the Competition:
1. Vehicle Design: Ambitious teams from around the world work to
design and build production-capable, super fuel-efficient, clean
vehicles that people want to buy. Vehicles must be proven to
meet rigorous standards, including:
• High fuel economy (100 MPGe) with low emissions
(200 g/mi CO2e wells-to-wheels greenhouse gas emissions
and low tailpipe emissions)
• Production-capable and designed to reach the market in volumes
of at least 10,000 units per year
• Safe and affordable
• Minimum capacities, performance, and features
2. Vehicle Qualification: A thorough qualification process will assess safety, cost, features and business plans to ensure only production-capable, real cars compete
3. Vehicle Testing: Teams compete in dramatic races that test vehicle efficiency, performance and durability under real-world conditions:
• Technology and fuel neutral
• City, hill, distance, and speed segments
• Vehicles with best overall time in the race that meet the minimum requirements will split purse (3:1 ratio between Mainstream and Alternative classes)
• Mainstream class = Vehicles that meet current consumer expectations for size and capability
• Alternative class = Outlet for innovative ideas that push forward today's concept of "what a car is"
